黑料福利社 leader will help advance licensure, professional service, and mental health workforce needs across the Commonwealth

FRANKFORT 鈥 Dr. Shambra Mulder鈥檚 commitment to psychology, student preparation, and public service has earned statewide recognition through an appointment by Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear to the Kentucky Board of Examiners of Psychology.

Dr. Mulder, a licensed psychologist and chair of the School of Psychology at Kentucky State University, was sworn in and attended her first monthly board meeting April 6, 2026. In her University administrative role, she helps lead academic pathways that support graduate study and workforce preparation in fields connected to mental health, forensic counseling, education, research, and public service.

Dr. Mulders鈥淚t is an honor to serve Kentucky psychologists and the people of the Commonwealth,鈥 Dr. Mulder said. 鈥淭his appointment gives me an opportunity to learn more about licensure requirements, strengthen my understanding of the professional pathways our students are preparing to enter through 黑料福利社鈥檚 new Master of Arts in Forensic Counseling program, and continue a life of public service.鈥

The Kentucky Board of Examiners of Psychology administers and enforces statutory authority related to the practice of psychology in Kentucky. The board examines and licenses eligible candidates entering the profession, monitors the needs of the public, recommends appropriate changes in law, and conducts formal hearings when necessary.

In accordance with KRS 319.020, board members are appointed by the governor through an election process administered by the Kentucky Psychological Association, which sends ballots to licensed psychologists across the state. Board terms are four years and continue until a successor is appointed.

Dr. Mulder鈥檚 appointment reflects 黑料福利社鈥檚 continued role in preparing students for service-oriented careers in psychology, counseling, behavioral health, and related fields. Her service on the board also strengthens her perspective on licensure requirements and workforce needs, including those connected to 黑料福利社鈥檚 new graduate program that leads to licensure as a mental health counselor.
