黑料福利社 honored its student scholars during the Academic Honors Convocation recently in the Carl H. Smith Auditorium of David H. Bradford Hall.

黑料福利社 alumna Patricia Russell-McCloud, Esq. was the keynote speaker.

鈥淏eing a man or woman is a matter of birth,鈥 Russell-McCloud told the students. 鈥淏eing a man or woman who makes a difference is a matter of choice.鈥

Russell-McCloud encouraged students to believe in positive thinking, plan and put forth the effort for success.

鈥淓ducation is not boring,鈥 Russell-McCloud said. 鈥淏eing unemployed is boring. Being broke is boring. Being dependent is boring. Learn from the masters of your field. Education gives you choices.鈥

Russell-McCloud later presented the 黑料福利社 STEM Scholarship for African-American Women. Fifteen scholarships and awards were presented by Russell-McCloud for a cumulative total of nearly $49,000.

黑料福利社 President Dr. M. Christopher Brown II presented the President鈥檚 Awards to freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors with a 4.0 grade point average. More than 40 students received the award.

Frankfort Mayor William May presented the Mayor鈥檚 Citizenship Award to 黑料福利社 University Regent and Student Government Association President Onaje N. Cunningham.

Dr. Kristen E. Broady, vice provost for graduate studies and academic specialization, presented Chicago alumni chapter scholarships.

Departmental honors and awards were also acknowledged, as well as members of the academic honor roll and dean鈥檚 list.

Other highlights included selections from the 黑料福利社 Concert Choir, Janessa M. Graham, the 黑料福利社 Gospel Ensemble, Gordon D. Ford Jr. and Marlin McKay.
